#Riseup : Youth Gathering / #Riseup : Reunion de la Juventud

Next year, the ELCA Youth Gathering will be held in Detroit, Michigan from July 15-19 in 2015; however,  financial assistance and the opening for its registration starts in 2014. The Youth Gathering takes place every three years to inspire high school students to experience a positive gathering of empowerment, study, worship, fellowship, and holy play from Wednesday to Sunday.

El próximo año, la Asamblea Juvenil de la ELCA se llevará a cabo en Detroit, Michigan a partir de julio 15 a 19 en el 2015, sin embargo, la asistencia financiera y la apertura para su registro se inicia en 2014. El Encuentro de Jóvenes se lleva a cabo cada tres años para inspirar a los estudiantes de secundaria a experimentar un encuentro positivo de empoderamiento, el estudio, la adoración, el compañerismo y el juego sagrado la cual el evento empieza el miércoles y termina el domingo.

Advent/ Advenimiento

The Advent starts on December 1st and ends on December 24th or better known as Christmas eve. The importance of the advent is because we are commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. On these days, our church observes the advent by utilizing the liturgical colors with either purple or blue. In addition, the advent wreath with candles is placed at church and many families may also follow this practice at home. The wreath has four candles and every Sunday – one candle is lit, then a fifth one is placed celebrating the birth Jesus on Christmas eve.

El Adviento comienza el 1 de diciembre y finaliza el 24 de diciembre o mejor conocido como la víspera de Navidad. La importancia del Adviento es que estamos conmemorando el nacimiento de Jesucristo. En estos días, nuestra iglesia observa el adviento utilizando los colores litúrgicos que son el púrpura o el azul. Además, la corona del adviento con velas se coloca en la iglesia y muchas familias también pueden seguir esta práctica en casa. La corona tiene cuatro velas y todos los domingos una vela se enciende, entonces la quinta vela se coloca en noche buena para celebrar el nacimiento de Jesús.

The month of December observes World AIDS Day. HIV and AIDS is a pandemic that has killed millions of children and adults regardless of their age, race or sexual orientation; however, there are many charities and organizations that dedicate their time to help raise funds, awareness and medical discoveries to end HIV and AIDS. Here’s how you can help. Everybody loves holiday foods, but festivities also bring unhealthy choices. There are simple alternatives to enjoy the delicious holiday good eats by swapping with healthier substitutions. A todos nos gusta las festividades por las deliciosas comidas que por tradición son atractivas durante las festividades, pero hay modos como utilizar simples substituciones para disfrutar estas deliciosas recetas sin sacrificar el sabor.

Substitutions/ alternativas

Regular flour -> try wheat or oatmeal flour

Cena de acción de gracias/ Thanksgiving dinner

Cena de acción de gracias en nuestra iglesia el 27 de noviembre. La cena empieza a las cinco de la tarde. También habrá una rifa de dos dólares para ganar una canasta de acción de gracias y el ganador se anunciará el mismo día.

Thanksgiving dinner at our church. Dinner will be held November 27 at 5 PM. We will also have a raffle event. The raffle tickets will be two dollars and a winner will be announced at the same day. The winner of the raffle will win a food basket.
